  • Spring days and avoiding spring fever…

Maybe you have felt it too – that restless feeling that persitently wants to drag you away from all of your indoor activities. It seems that no matter how much you have to do you just want to put it on hold and go spend time outdoors. It is a bit like a fever, no matter how much you want to feel better, you just don’t feel better; no matter how much you want to forget about the lovely weather outside, you just can’t forget about it. The sunshine, the breeze, the new green of young grass and sprouting leaves are all calling your name, begging you to come outside…

So, what do I do? One of the main things that I am doing to help stay focussed is utilizing a study schedule which the kind folks at the Student Academic Support Service were kind enough to help me with. Some of you may be curious about my schedule, so here is a quick look at it: schedule 1

I follow this schedule Monday through Saturday and take Sundays off from studying. Each day I have a new topic to study. The topics include: Embryology, Anatomy, Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Pharmacology, Neurology, Psychology and systems (Respiratory, Reproductive, Endocrinology, Musculoskeletal and Skin, Renal, Cardiac, Hematology, and Oncology). I also have a couple of days built into my schedule for practice full length exams. So, all-in-all it is more than enough to keep me busy.

My lunch break is over, I am resisting spring fever, and so back to studying I go…

Thank you to all of you for your prayers and support!

  • Catch-Up Time!

It has been a little while since I last did an update.

Anthony is now a week from being 5 months old and I haven’t shown you any pictures from when he was 4 months. He is growing and getting to be a lot of fun! Of course he has his fussy times, which the last while seem to be more than his happy times. ( Yes, to all you who think he is always happy, he can be quite a grump! Sorry to let you down but he is not a perfect little angel baby.) I still love him dearly and wouldn’t give him up for a “perfect” baby. He has so many cute, sweet ways about him that I would miss. Although at the same time I will be glad when he becomes happier and more contented. He has been working on his teeth which has contributed to him being fussy. He is also at that stage where he gets bored from just laying around and wants to sit up but can’t quite do it yet. He thinks he should be entertained all the time and is having to learn to entertain himself some so I can do something else. He isn’t quite sure that he likes to play by himself but he is learning. Yesterday he was such a sweet happy boy all day and it was sooo nice! He loves to drink water out of a cup and is quite good at it. He doesn’t let it all run out of his mouth. We got him a sippy cup with handles that he really likes because he can get a drink by himself. He is growing up so fast! The last while he has been really trying to talk. Sometimes his mouth is moving like he is really trying. He has been making syllable sounds the last while. It is lots of fun to watch him learn new things.

He likes to talk to his dolly!

He really likes to look at his Baby Animal book! He also likes me to go through it and make the animal sound for each one. I think he is going to like books!

We got a record breaking snow this past weekend! The last time it snowed on February 28th in Memphis was in 1984! That time it was only a light dusting and this time we had between 6-8 inches! It was so pretty and made the city look a lot better. It is very hard though to get nice snow pictures in the city. Everything looked so white and clean! The snow made me think about what the blood of Jesus has done for us. His blood takes the vilest of us and washes us clean and makes us white! What a blessed Savior we have and I’m thankful to Him for cleansing me and washing me white as snow! Even though I really like the snow I am looking forward to it being warm again. There are some daffodils that are blooming here and also some other bulbs that are coming up that are a reminder that spring is on its way! I’m glad we have winter but I’m also thankful that it doesn’t last all year! Of course if it lasted all year we would be better equipped for it and wouldn’t know what it was like other wise. I know what it is like to be warm so I am ready for the cold to pass by! It is hard to keep this house warm which makes me wish for warm weather more. The windows are not insulated and have space around them that leak. At least we have windows! It would be a lot worse without them. We have so much to be thankful for and yet in our human nature we tend to look at what is wrong or what we don’t have instead of looking at what we are blessed with. I know that I don’t always do the best at seeing the blessings. By God’s grace though I hope to do better at seeing the blessing He has placed around me and not focus on what I might wish was different. I want to always be thankful no matter what the circumstance may be. God is so good at bringing things into our lives to get our focus back on what it should be.

It has been very busy around here, especially for Philip. Classes are winding down and a whole line of exams are coming up. I will try to give you a glimpse of what the next little while has in store for him. He finishes up with classes today and has Thursday to study for an exam he has on Friday. Then he has Monday through Wednesday to study for a four hour exam that he will take either Thursday or Friday. This exam covers everything they have had since Thanksgiving. The next week he has a practical exam on Monday and written one on Friday. During that week he also has a book he has to read in preparation for taking Step1 medical licensing exam. Starting then on March 23 he has three weeks of intense studying for his Step1exam ( it is 8 hours long). The studying is so intense that he has a schedule to help him cover everything in time. He has to study every day from 8:00 in the morning till around 10:00-10:30 every evening. The schedule even has how many pages he has to read a hour. He gets a break for lunch and supper each day and every Sunday off. He takes Step 1 exam on April 15th. So, if you think of him in the next weeks you can pray for him! I sure don’t envy him right now, but I’m glad I can be here to help him with whatever I can.
